Independent gaming desk · Melbourne

Games, played properly and written about honestly.

No score-chasing, no press-junket hype. Just deep reviews, benchmarked hardware and the indie gems that slip past the algorithm — from a small crew in Southbank.

Our mission

Slow criticism in a fast-refresh industry.

We finish the games before we write about them. Every review on FrostGameExpedition means at least 20 hours logged, every benchmark is run on hardware we actually own, and every recommendation is one we'd give a friend. Founded in 2019, we're reader-funded and answer to nobody but the people reading.

What we cover

Five beats, covered with the same obsessive detail.

Long-form reviews

Full playthroughs before verdict. We break down pacing, systems and value, then tell you exactly who a game is — and isn't — for.

Hardware benchmarks

Frame-time graphs, 1% lows and real thermals on GPUs, handhelds and monitors we buy ourselves — never review units with strings attached.

Indie spotlights

Weekly deep dives on small-studio releases, with a focus on the growing scene here in Melbourne and across the wider APAC region.

Culture & interviews

Sit-downs with designers, composers and preservationists — the human decisions and history behind the games that stick with us.

Buyer's guides

Updated tier lists for handhelds, controllers and headsets, priced in AUD and checked against what Australian retailers actually stock.

Retro preservation

Emulation how-tos, legal-dumping walkthroughs and features on the classics worth protecting before they vanish for good.

Reader letters

The people who fund the desk.

"Your Dunefall review talked me out of a pre-order and into a game I now love instead. That's worth the membership on its own."
Marcus L.Carlton, VIC · March 2026
"The handheld benchmarks are the only ones I trust — actual 1% lows, not marketing slides. Bought my Ally X off your chart."
Priya S.Fitzroy, VIC · January 2026
"As a small studio in Melbourne, the indie spotlight sent us more wishlists in a week than a whole year of posting ourselves."
Dane K.Southbank, VIC · November 2025
